Let’s Talk About Carbon Fiber Infrared Heaters
If you’re used to standard halogen tubes, carbon fiber lamps feel a bit different. Instead of a metal coil, we use a carbon filament tucked inside quartz. The big win here? They react fast. Really fast. Because of that carbon core, the heat hits a broader spectrum—leaning more toward those medium and long waves—which is exactly what you want when you need a heavy thermal punch right away.
Getting the Power Right
If you’re setting these up for the US market, the first thing we need to nail is the voltage. If it’s off, your filament is going to burn out way sooner than it should. Now, you might be tempted to cram as much wattage as possible into a short tube to get that heat density up. It’ll ramp up instantly, sure. But keep in mind that puts a lot of stress on your reflectors. If you push the wattage too hard, make sure your housing can actually breathe. Otherwise, you’re looking at a warped frame.
What They’re Made Of
We wrap the filament in high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because it can take the shock. You can cycle these things on and off rapidly and the glass won’t just crack under the pressure. As for the plugs, we stick to the basics—R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re simple drop-in replacements for most industrial setups. Plus, they fit snugly. That’s important because when your machinery starts vibrating, you don’t want your terminals arcing.
Where They Actually Work (and the Catch)
You’ll mostly find these in PET blowing, paint curing, or plastic welding. The magic is that they hit operating temperature almost the second you flip the switch. No more sitting around waiting for the machine to warm up. But here’s the thing: carbon filaments are a bit more delicate than tungsten. They can be fragile. If your shop is a high-vibration environment or if your team is a bit rough when swapping out tubes, don’t just bolt them in. Use some dampened mounting brackets. It’s a small detail, but it keeps your tubes from snapping when things get shaky.
