
Let’s Talk About Twin Tube Quartz Carbon Lamps
Here is the deal with our twin tube design: we wanted to pack as much heat as possible into a tiny space. Most heaters use a single element. We went with a twin-tube setup because it basically doubles the surface area that’s actually throwing off heat. It means you hit your target temperatures way faster, and you don’t have to build a massive, sprawling heating bank to do it.
The Power Stuff
These lamps are built for high-wattage loads. We’re talking about a rapid thermal soak that gets things hot, fast. We swapped out the usual tungsten for carbon filaments. Why? Because it cuts down the voltage drop and pumps out more medium-wave infrared radiation. When you hook these into a high-voltage circuit, the heat density is intense. But a word of warning: that intensity is hard on your reflectors. If yours are pitted or looking a bit rusty, you’re wasting a ton of energy. The lamps end up working overtime to make up for it, which just wears them out faster.
Why Quartz and Carbon?
The quartz tube is there to keep the carbon filament from oxidizing. We use high-purity quartz because it doesn’t freak out when the temperature swings wildly—no cracking, no drama. The carbon filaments run cooler than tungsten, but they’re much better at emitting energy in that 2.0 to 3.0 micron range. If you’re working with plastics or organic materials, this is exactly what you want. They just soak up that specific wavelength. As for the plugs, we offer R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re designed to be drop-in replacements for most industrial ovens. They snap in tight, which is key, because a loose connection leads to arcing—and that’s usually where these lamps die.
Real-World Use (and the Catch)
If you’re doing PET blowing or curing plastics, these are your best friend. They give you that instant heat you need to keep a high-speed production line moving. But, they aren’t indestructible. Quartz is fragile. One clumsy move during install or a stray piece of grit can shatter the whole tube. And please, for the love of everything,**keep them clean.**If you leave fingerprints on the glass, those oils bake right into the quartz. It creates a hot spot, and before you know it, your lamp is toast.
