A Real-World Look at Half-White Carbon Fiber IR Lamps
We built these lamps for those annoying industrial situations where standard quartz tubes just can’t hack it. By combining a carbon fiber heating element with a partial white coating, we’ve found a way to push the heat exactly where it needs to go, without the blinding glare or the risk of overheating the surface. Why carbon fiber? It’s all about speed. Unlike those old metal coils that take their time to warm up, carbon fiber hits its stride almost instantly. It’s fast. Really fast. Then there’s the “half-white” part. That coating on the quartz isn’t just for looks—it actually bounces some of that infrared energy back toward your workpiece. You get a much tighter, denser hit of heat. Plus, if you’re running these in a drying tunnel or a curing line, you’ll notice they’re a lot tougher. Carbon fiber handles the stress of heating up and cooling down way better than tungsten, so you aren’t constantly replacing snapped lamps. Getting them set up When you’re wiring these in, just keep an eye on your voltage drop. We make these in a few different wattages, so you can pick the one that fits your current power setup without having to rewire the whole shop. One big win here is the surface temperature. Since we’re using a carbon fiber core, the lamp doesn’t get as scorching hot on the outside as a clear halogen tube would. This is a lifesaver if your conveyor belt happens to stall—you’re much less likely to burn a hole right through your product. A few things to watch out for Look, these things are built for a fight, but the coating isn’t invincible. If you start scrubbing the quartz with harsh chemicals, you’re going to strip that white layer right off. Once that happens, you lose that reflective efficiency. Stick to gentle cleaning. And here’s a pro tip: carbon fiber is efficient, but it puts out a lot of concentrated heat. Youneedproper venting in your housing. If you trap that heat in a tight box, you’ll fry the end caps before you know it. Before you swap these in as a drop-in replacement, just double-check your airflow. Your hardware will thank you.
