How we stop the “drift”
To keep power steady over thousands of hours, you can’t just use off-the-shelf parts. We use heavy-duty quartz envelopes and high-purity tungsten filaments. Why? Because they don’t thin out as quickly. Most lamps “drift” in wattage over time, but these hold their ground. Then there’s the power supply. It needs to match the lamp’s impedance exactly. We build these modules to eat industrial voltage swings for breakfast without a single flicker. When the power stays flat, the surface temperature of the pad stays constant. That means you can stop fiddling with the conveyor speed every ten minutes. It just works.
Dealing with the heat
We’re cramming a lot of wattage into a tiny footprint to get that coating to cure fast. That creates an intense amount of heat in a very small space. If you don’t get your cooling fans and heat sinks right, you’re in trouble. If the ends of the lamp get too hot, the seals fail. Then the lamp burns out way before it should. We also use industrial-grade connectors. In this environment, metal expands and contracts. Cheap connectors loosen up, which creates hotspots, which leads to voltage drops. We use precision-fit terminals that can take a beating without shaking loose.
The reality of the shop floor
Let’s be honest: no IR system is “set it and forget it.” Even with the toughest modules, you’ve got to watch your reflectors. Dust and coating overspray love to build up on those mirrors, and that kills your efficiency. My advice? Give them a weekly wipe-down to keep the heat throw strong. Keep those reflectors clean, and your lamps will actually hit their rated lifespan.
